Comprehensive Assessment

The purpose of our comprehensive occupational therapy assessment is to identify any challenges or difficulties your child may be facing. We collaborate with you and your child to prioritise supports, provide clear and concise recommendations and implement interventions to overcome barriers and enhance independence.

Espire’s comprehensive assessment involves standardised and non-standardised assessments, designed to determine the best intervention plan for your child, their needs and their goals.

Our Assessments

Handwriting Assessment

Handwriting is an important skill for children to master, enabling them to effectively communicate and learn. Some children may experience difficulty with handwriting due to factors such as fine or gross motor skills, strength, pencil grip, visual motor skills, sensory processing or reduced body awareness.

Espire’s handwriting assessment aims to direct intervention and provides evidence for implementation of appropriate strategies. A detailed report is provided, describing outcomes from the assessments and outlining recommendations to enhance engagement in writing and learning tasks.

Fine Motor Assessment

Espire's fine motor skills assessments involve the analysis of your child's ability to coordinate the smaller muscles in their hands and fingers. These assessments explore writing skills, visual motor integration skills, coordination, strength and ability to execute fine motor tasks such as cutting, colouring, writing, shoelace tying and donning buttons and zips.

Sensory Processing Assessment

The sensory processing assessment provides a holistic understanding of your child’s sensory preferences and how this affects their day-to-day life. Sensory dysregulation can affect children’s engagement in their daily tasks across all areas of their life.

This assessment will involve the administration of the Sensory (child) Profile, collaboration with family/carers and educators and a one-to-one assessment with your child. A detailed report will be provided outlining assessment outcomes and recommendations to support your child's sensory system.
